Nas Abrahams, Visual Artist

Posted on 13 March 2017

Nas is originally from London and currently lives in London. West to be specific! With a strong understanding in fine art and design, during his university course in Fashion Illustration, he underwent self-initiated studies using a wide range of media; photography, moving image, graphic design, print design etc. where he discovered an affinity for all things visual. He loves combining his fashion and art skills.

Nas is photographed wearing the Easy Shirt, Sweatshirt, Suede Jacket and Trench Coat.

Who or what last made you laugh out loud
My girlfriend, singing her rendition of a song in the cutest way ever.

Who or what inspires you
Not a particular person, rather seeing people create in general. I have a few artists on instagram who constantly produce gold, but generally scrolling through pinterest fires me up. I’ve actually had to stop myself from scrolling through pinterest at night, as it usually sparks a burning passion to create something at 3am.

Your words to live by
“Treat others how you want to be treated” Luke 6:31

What cause or causes do you feel passionate about
Getting people off the streets in London. I’m all for helping third world countries, but we have so many problems in our own back yard which I believe we need to sort out first, and it starts with how we think about things collectively. Don’t get me started!

Best piece of advice you’ve ever been given
“Why not take your own photos and use those to draw from?”- My tutor at university pertaining to when I studied fashion illustration. That question incidentally sparked a whole new perspective on how I create my visuals, resulting in everything I do being completely original, no stock imagery etc. It also created an incentive to pick up a camera and start shooting. Oh, and, “be so good they can’t ignore you.”- Steve Martin.

Your favourite London view
Probably Oxford Street early on a Saturday morning in the summer with intense sunshine. Or Central London back streets after it’s just been raining and the sunlight breaks through the clouds, reflects of the wet ground and just illuminates the grey buildings. Gorgeous.

Are you working on anything at present
But of course! I am currently working on some abstract fine art pieces that I plan to roll out towards the second half of this year, based on the topic of “Synaesthesia”, I can’t wait to show!

Describe your style
I don’t really have one particular style, I really dress based on what I feel I want to be that day. Sometimes I want to be technical and comfortable, especially when I’m doing photography, sometimes I feel like dressing a bit more high-end, slightly more formal etc. I often just feel like wearing one particular piece that day, which will often dictate the whole outfit.

Whose style do you most admire, past or present
I would say Pharrell Williams Circa 2013 when he started mixing classic trilby’s and fedora’s in with his streetwear line. Recently, Korean musician ‘Zion T’ has ridiculously cool style, very experimental but effortless at the same time.

Favourite piece from the ENLIST collection
Tricky one, the whole collection is right up my alley! I would say the Rollneck Sweater in rust,  really well constructed, great fit, high quality knit and an extremely versatile piece. The Easy Shirt pinstripe is also one of my favourites, mainly because I’m obsessed with pinstripe at the moment and the fit of this shirt is awesome, I love the fabric too.
